Safety never taken for granted: meeting with Gabriele Salvitti

In recent days, at the Alpago plant, we made a decision that broke with our daily routine: we stopped. We halted production to take a moment to listen and reflect, because sometimes it is precisely by pausing our work that we are able to grasp the things that really matter.

We listened to Gabriele Salvitti, who told us how an ordinary day, seemingly identical to many others, turned into an event that changed everything for him. In 2015, an accident at work while he was driving a heavy vehicle left him confined to a wheelchair. A moment. A situation taken for granted. A series of factors that aligned in an unexpected way. Circumstances that each of us always tends to think “can’t happen to me.”

His story deeply affected everyone present. It was not a call for compassion, but for awareness.

👉 Because safety is not a set of abstract rules.
👉 Because haste, habits, and overconfidence in one’s actions can turn into enormous risks.
👉 Because listening to a real story reminds us, in a direct and powerful way, that it can really happen to anyone.

At the same time, Gabriele’s message was also one of hope. Life can change abruptly, but people’s value, their strength, and their ability to put their experience at the service of others remain intact.

We thank him for sharing such a personal part of his journey.

And thanks also to all the people who listened attentively, dedicating their time—and open minds—to a topic that concerns us all.

Safety always starts with an individual choice. Every single day.
