MEHITS for ART: Trip to Ferrara

Last November 25th, the new “MEHITS for ART” project kicked off with the aim of spreading the values of culture, art, and team building. The first outing took place in Ferrara with a group of 19 colleagues from all plants in the Veneto region.

After a walk through the streets of the Renaissance city, they visited the latest exhibition organized at Palazzo dei Diamanti and dedicated to the painter Achille Funi (1890 – 1972). A native of Ferrara, Funi traversed many of the artistic experiences of the last century, starting with Futurism and the other disruptive avant-garde experiments of the first decades, and ending with a figurative rediscovery of tradition, founding the Milanese group Novecento and adhering to Magic Realism. This was the so-called “return to order” that many artists felt the need for after the shocking experiences of the Great War. Against this backdrop there was no shortage of major mural commissions, often public and for celebratory purposes, of which the exhibition offers a wide selection of preparatory cartoons.

The outing concluded with a visit to the National Archaeological Museum and its extremely rich collections from the city of Spina, an ancient Etruscan port of crucial importance in the upper Adriatic. Systematic excavations carried out since 1922 following land reclamation operations in the Comacchio area have yielded more than 4,000 burials with extraordinarily rich grave goods that testify to the fashion for both figurative pottery of Greek origin and refined bronze foil productions of Veneto origin. Below are some of the most significant photos from the outing.

If you too are passionate about the cultural riches of our territory, we look forward to seeing you at the next outing scheduled for February 24th in Mantua!
