Giovanni Schiochet, T. Tech. & I. Process Manager

Let’s meet Giovanni, in his new role as Thermodynamic Technology & Innovation Process Manager!

Behind a small change in your job title lies a bigger change, is that right?

The change is there, and for the team it is substantial: we look up to accelerate, with awareness. With the new course, the innovation development function becomes more structured, as part of the new Core Technology R&D Centre, and returns to being transversal to all Business Units. The period spent serving the Chillers & Heat Pumps BU was useful to focus efforts on the design of components and sub-assemblies that could have a broad impact for the project portfolio, while, with the new structure, a new depth of vision is intended. The aim is to develop skills and technologies, in a growth path that will help the company to be an industry leader.

If up to now we have worked with the aim of improving the components we design, in the future we aim to have more technical expertise also in the components we do not design, and to introduce new solutions that can distinguish us in the market. The development of the necessary competencies will come through targeted training, collaboration, and continuous exchange with the different BUs. Even if there is a dedicated structure, it is essential to be aware that innovation needs everyone’s contribution.

Briefly describe the new Core Technology R&D Centre area you are part of.

The function is organised in such a way that on the one hand the management of laboratories and the evaluation of new technologies, and on the other hand the thermodynamic investigation of components and systems. The organisation is also accompanied by a new process that can regulate innovation and ensure that it is structural, continuous. We are making an effort to identify and overcome obstacles that slow us down in achieving our goals, through active and frequent involvement of BU managers and technical directors. Including the laboratories in the new structure also highlights the need to extend what has been done so far, facilitating their involvement in research activities and the evaluation of new technologies.

What do you see as the strengths of MEHITS today?

The air-conditioning industry is going through a period of significant challenges (such as regulatory changes) but also significant opportunities. The company has changed and is still transforming itself, aiming at continuous improvement in quality and customer satisfaction. Being able to count on the support of a group like Mitsubishi Electric ensures that we can cope with this phase in the best possible way. I believe that the main strengths are precisely the drive for improvement, knowing the direction in which to go, and people who work daily to implement these changes. Mehits has all these ingredients.
