Launching the Cyber Security Awareness Programme

From 10 July 2024, all MEHITS employees will be able to participate in the Cyber Security Awareness training programme in e-learning mode, to increase their awareness of the risks of misusing digital technologies and learn how to protect themselves against cyber attacks.

The aim of the course is to involve everyone on the front line because anyone could become an unwitting victim of cyber crime.

By joining the Cyber Security Awareness programme, with a commitment of just a few minutes per month you will gain the right level of awareness and learn how to defend yourself.

Participating in the initiative will be an opportunity to expand one’s knowledge while having fun and strengthening cooperation with colleagues. The training course is mandatory.

🛡️ The Project

The Management, our LISO and the ICT office, within the scope of their competence for cyber security, propose a simple and effective path for each individual to recognise potential threats from the cyber world.

Today, it is estimated that a high percentage of cyber security incidents originate from some form of human error, and among the most commonly detected forms of errors and risky habits are inadequate management of one’s passwords, the inability to recognise fraudulent sites, dangerous e-mail attachments and misleading URLs.

The proposal for this programme therefore stems from the awareness that computer security cannot be entrusted solely to specialised and technical interventions, but must also be ensured by investing in the human factor.

With this in mind, the Cyber Security Awareness programme offers all personnel a simple path to develop a high degree of awareness in the use of digital technologies and Web surfing. The course is conducted through an e-learning platform and is divided into three levels that will be offered over three years. Each level includes modules dedicated to specific topics, learning tests, and participation in a ‘gaming’ phase proposed to stimulate and enliven the training course. Participating in the programme is simple, just log in to the platform using your company credentials and follow the video lesson proposed in the module.

🛡️ The Programme

The complete training course programme is structured on three levels, which will be offered over three years.

🛡️ Contents

Each level is structured around 12 modules and 1 episode dedicated to specific topics. The modules are accessed through the Cyber Guru Awareness e-learning platform. Each month a new content is enabled and staff are invited to continue the journey. The method of use is sequential, i.e. it is necessary to complete one piece of content before moving on to the next.

For the first level (July 2024 to June 2025), the modules will be as follows:

🛡️ Lessons per module

Each module consists of 3 short lessons, each consisting of a few minutes of video content and, alternatively, a pdf document with the same content. The 3 lessons within the module are organised as follows:

  • the first lesson offers a basic knowledge of the subject;
  • the second lesson offers insight and stimulates the user’s ‘readiness’ by creating the conditions to recognise threats;
  • the third lesson proposes best practices and stimulates correct behavioural responses.

🛡️ Learning test

To pass from one lesson to the next, you must pass a learning test consisting of 4 multiple-choice questions. The lesson is considered passed when at least 3 out of 4 questions are answered correctly. The test may be repeated more than once; the best result is always taken into account for the purposes of the course.

🛡️ Episodes

Each episode features a specific cyber-theme. There is no test upon completion of the episode. Again, there is a concept of propaedeuticity, whereby it is necessary to complete one episode in order to move on to the next.

🛡️ The Gaming Phase

The project includes:

  • an individual gaming system, with the possibility for participants to acquire a personal score also consisting of medals and cups;
  • a team-based gaming system in which the staff of each department form a team. Each team will have a team leader and will accumulate its score by adding up the scores of its individual members.

To learn more about the scoring system and the game in general, please consult the Rules within the platform.
